Roger Goodell has signed a contract extension that will extend his term as NFL commissioner into 2027, the league announced Wednesday.

Commissioner of the NFL since Sept. 1, 2006, Goodell inked an extension will keep him at his position through March 2027. It is the fourth contract extension Goodell has received in his tenure, receiving extensions in 2009, 2012 and 2017.

Details of Goodell's contract weren't revealed, but the 64-year-old commissioner was paid about $63.9 million during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 fiscal years, according to the New York Times. ESPN previously reported Goodell could receive the most lucrative deal given to any commissioner in any sport.

Goodell's extension is expected to be the last deal he receives, Irsay said. By 2027, Goodell would be in his 22nd year as commissioner, the second longest tenure in NFL history behind Pete Rozelle (1960-89). Goodell will also be 68 by the end of his extension, older than Rozelle when he retired at 63, and previous commissioner Paul Tagliabue, who retired at age 65.
