Baseball Hall of Famer and San Francisco Giants legend Willie Mays, 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon. "The Say Hey Kid" as many referred to him, is often considered the best all-around baseball player of all-time.
Mays' career spanned four decades, and he epitomized the definition of a five-tool player. He was the 1951 Rookie of the Year, a 1954 World Series champion, and two-time MVP. Mays also smacked 660 career home runs (sixth-most in MLB history), won 12 Gold Gloves in center field (tied for the most of any outfielder all-time with Roberto Clemente), and was a 24-time All-Star (tied for second-most all-time; Hank Aaron, 25). Mays also served two years in the military, fighting in the Korean War at the start of his MLB career.
Here are some reactions to Mays' passing from around the internet.
